Endoscopic resection and ablation of superficial varicosities using a
powered vein
resector, irrigated illuminator and tumescent anesthesia, is a newly
developed
outpatient technique.
Use of the TriVex™ System has been shown to have minimal complications
while
offering improvement over previous methods (e.g., vein stripping, stab
avulsion, use of manual hooks, large hooks, hemostats, or dissection using
large incisions with external skin sutures). This new approach avoids
multiple incisions to remove
friable and fragmented veins. Previous methods utilized a blind surgical
technique—transillumination improves visualization and definable
endpoints, giving surgeons the ability to target the vessel and validate
removal of the vessel.
In initial evaluations, this procedure demonstrates a short learning
curve, decreased
procedure time, and fewer incisions. The procedure may be associated with
improved patient outcomes including shorter recovery, and a good cosmetic
result. Additionally, this procedure is designed to facilitate removal of
multiple sizes and shapes of veins and removal of scarred/previously
injected veins.
